Press Release: Albany Parking Authority Announces New Fast Chargers, Increasing Electric Charging Footprint to 27
August 29, 2024
The new fast chargers will be in Parking Lot 3 located at 327 Washington Avenue
ALBANY, NY — The Albany Parking Authority announced today that construction has begun on four new Direct Current Fast Chargers (DCFC) for electric vehicles. The chargers are being installed as part of an ongoing collaboration with the New York Power Authority, which is tasked with building out New York State’s EV charging network. These new chargers will add to the Albany Parking Authority’s growing EV Charger portfolio, bringing the total available fast chargers at ParkAlbany locations to eight. These new chargers will be the Authority’s first in one of its uptown parking lots and are expected to be online and usable by the end of September.
“Electric vehicles are hitting the road every day, but the only way they are going to stay on the road is if we keep building out the charging network. We at the Parking Authority are doing what we can to meet the needs of existing EV drivers and to encourage more drivers to make the transition to EV by expanding the charging infrastructure at our parking locations. I am proud of the progress we have made to make charging more accessible within the City of Albany,” said Sean Palladino, Executive Director of the Albany Parking Authority.
The four new fast chargers will be in Parking Lot 3, 327 Washington Avenue, at the corner of Washington and Lexington Avenue. Lot 3 is surrounded by both residential and commercial properties including offices, restaurants, and retail, and is a short walk from Central Avenue, Washington Park and SUNY Albany’s Downtown Campus. Including Level 2 chargers installed over the past two years, these new units expand the Parking Authority’s electric charging footprint to 27 EV chargers, spread across three downtown parking garages and eight uptown parking lots in the City of Albany. The new chargers will be on the Electrify America network.
“The New York Power Authority has joined with the Albany Parking Authority on new EV charging options that will make it easier to travel in and around the capital city without generating local greenhouse gas emissions, which impact the health of those living and working in Albany,” said Justin E. Driscoll, Power Authority President and CEO. “This latest station will provide another convenient charging option for those commuting to work and for residents without at-home charging, ensuring drivers have robust charging options in the community.”
